where books should not go...

A number of blogger's have been posting pictures of their desks, the most entertaining so far has been Michael Birds "interim office". Reading through the comments, Brandon Wason mentioned an episode of Sienfeild where an expensive book is taken into the bathroom and it looses its value.

And so I wondered how many of you out there share my opinion that taking a book into the bathroom to read as you do your business is simply wrong! How could you possibly take one of your precious books there?? What if one was to read something that would prove to be a significant turning point in your thinking, the memory would be forever tied to the crapper! And whats even worse, is when someone you lend a book to takes it to the bathroom, and then you see it waiting there for their next visit!!

There has to be some law against it...

So, is this you asking for forgiveness for ruining one of my books? Or is this you confessing that you've just ruined one of your own books?

I must beg to differ. I regularly read in the can. See my full response on my blog.

Only just come across your blog this afternoon so I don't know much about you apart from what your profile says. In response to this post and based on that 'primary' source, I'm guessing that Josh is no more than a couple of years old.
I have two kids and sitting on the throne (as I like to refer to it) is the best and most guaranteed regular bit of relative quiet during which to read! I try to read a chapter per sitting. On an average day, that book will be whatever my main read is at the time. But on days when I've spending my time reading and studying anyway, I take my current novel with me for some variation. The other thing that's good when enthroned (!) is my Palm Pilot - I can read documents, sort through my diary or just play a mindless game for a few minutes.
So there you go. Chopping a log can be a means of losing several kilos and gaining several thoughts!
